As a trained nurse, her brief was to care for people and nurture
them to wholeness and sound health. Today, Rev. (Mrs) Gbemi
Olaleye is reaching out to people and offering the soothing
balm to humanity. Her tool, music.
Immensely talented, Sister Gbemi as she is
fondly called has been offering hope and mobilizing humanity
through her music since 1981, she has traveled the nooks and
crannies of the country singing to Christian gatherings and
conventions.
She literally sings out the passion of her
heart, traversing the globe with the message of love and encouraging
people to achieve their dreams by drawing on the superior
power.
“I have a passion to see the world
changed and music is the platform to push my message. It is
a universal medium that everyone easily relates with”,
she added. This conviction made her turn her back on nursing
even after working so hard to qualify. Trained at the prestigious
University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Nigeria. So compelling
was her love for music that she joined Calvary Lord Singers
and later the Lord’s Family Band.
Interestingly, her subsequent marriage to
Bishop Abraham Olaleye, an evangelist would open a new chapter
in her musical career. By 1989, she could no longer hold back.
She founded Anointed Rhema Voices, a band she’s still
leading.
Leta Ayo, (Letter of Joy), Olorun Ife (The
Lovely God), Asiko Mi (My Time) Gba Gbogbo Ogo (Take all the
Glory) are some of the titles she has produced. Over the years,
her songs have enjoyed wide acceptance among Nigerians. Notably
all her songs are original and self-written.
With the band, Gbemi has been globetrotting, bringing the
message of peace and love to her listeners. This international
exposure is certainly aided by her husband’s evangelistic
crusades all over the world. So while her husband preaches,
she sings.
She has exhibited her musical talent in Ghana,
Togo, Congo Democratic, Peoples Republic of Congo, Gabon,
India, Canada, America and Britain with wide acclaim. Not
a few have been attracted to the meetings through her inspiring
songs. Her uniqueness comes through in powerful lyrics delivered
with danceable tunes.
The mother of five is unrelenting. She believes
millions should still hear her song of hope and comfort.
